Vale notice: Barry Watchorn

With heavy hearts, CareSuper mourns the loss of esteemed superannuation leader, Barry Watchorn AM.

Barry’s unwavering dedication around enhancing retirement outcomes for Australian workers within the profit-to-member superannuation sector will forever be revered and he will be remembered for his vision and foresight around superannuation’s role in people’s lives.  

Over the course of his illustrious 30-year career, Barry served as a board member across various industry funds, with a notable 16-year tenure on the CareSuper board, where he held the distinguished positions of Chair and Deputy Chair and was known for his humour, passion and love for party pies. 

Barry’s many achievements in the industry included receiving the Trustee of the year award at the Conference of Major Superannuation Funds in 2003. His invaluable contributions to the superannuation sector were officially acknowledged as he was honoured as a Member of the Order of Australia in 2021. 

Our hearts and thoughts go out to Barry’s family and friends during this difficult time. His absence will be acutely felt by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
