Providing tax file numbers

There are rules around providing your employees' tax file numbers (TFNs) to super funds. Here's what you need to know.

When an employee provides their TFN for superannuation purposes, you must send it on to their super fund within 14 days, or when you make their first SG contribution.

If they include their TFN on their employment declaration form, this counts as it being provided for superannuation purposes.

Fail to forward an employee’s TFN to their super fund within the set timeframe and you could be fined $1,100 by the ATO.

Remember, a TFN is sensitive information. Keep it secure and private. We’ll do the same.
