Spring cleaning your finances

We often think of spring as a time to focus on maintaining the physical aspects of our lives such as our homes and gardens, but it's also a perfect time to take stock of our finances. Here are some tips to help you get started.

Sort out old paperwork

Now is the time to take on that pile of old paperwork you’ve been avoiding. Any documents that contain personal information such as your name, address, account numbers or date of birth should be shredded before being thrown out. While it’s tempting to shred everything, it’s important not to throw out things you might
need in the future like birth and marriage certificates, information related to property you own or insurance details.

To save your super information from the shredder, you can opt in to receive communications from us electronically in MemberOnline. Update your communication preferences in MemberOnline to make sure we have your most up-to-date contact details.

Sell unused items

Selling your old stuff, like that old bike gathering dust in the shed, is a great way to make some extra cash and free up space around the house. You can list your items on Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree and eBay, which are generally at no cost. If you do make some extra money, consider making an additional contribution your super.

Check your super

It’s a good idea to check in on your super. Register or log in to MemberOnline and have a look around your account. You can see your:

  • Current super balance
  • Annual statements
  • Latest transactions
  • Super investment strategy
  • Insurance cover
  • Beneficiary details, and more.

Set some goals

Taking some time to look at your financial goals, or setting some if you don’t have any, is a great way to ensure your financial wellbeing. If you’ve fallen behind on your goals, don’t worry, this is an opportunity to reassess and start thinking about what you can do to achieve them. If you need support with setting and achieving your goals, we’re always here to help.
