Getting started with your DIO Account
Invest your way with confidence
Welcome to the Direct Investment Option (DIO), a simple way to take greater control of how your super is invested.
Opening a DIO account is easy, and we’ll guide you every step of the way.
Setting up your DIO account
Step 1. Open your account
To get started you’ll need to log in to Member Online, and then navigate to the ‘Investment’ tab. If you’re eligible to open an account, the DIO will be visible in your menu.
How do you know if you’re eligible?
To invest in the DIO, you must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum account balance of $20,000
- A CareSuper Flexible Income or Super account
- Access to Member Online
- A valid email address recorded in your account
If you meet these requirements, you can open a DIO account and begin building your own self-managed portfolio.
Step 2. Education and Tutorials
Once you enter the DIO Portal, we suggest you visit the ‘Education’ tab and take a look at the Tutorials, Fact Sheets and FAQs. Here you’ll learn more about investing and how to best manage your DIO account.
Step 3. Transfer funds to your DIO
To begin investing, you’ll need to transfer funds from your Super and/or Flexible Income account(s) into DIO Cash.
- Minimum transfer: $500
- Maximum transfer: shown in your account
The maximum amount ensures you keep a minimum balance in your otherCareSuper investment options, so you may not be able to transfer your full balance.
Once you’ve decided on your transfer amount to DIO Cash, click Start investing with DIO.
Tip: You’ll need $500 in reserve cash to start and operateyour DIO account. Starting with a modest amount above $500 is a great way to explore direct investing and understand if it fits with your objectives and risk profile. Most members increase their investment as they gain more confidence.
Step 4. Review your transfer
Next, check the details of your transfer, confirm you’ve read and understood the terms and conditions by ticking the box, and click Submit request.
Step 5. Pending transfer
While your transfer is being processed you will see a Pending DIO Transfer notification in your account.
Transfers are not immediate.
They take a few days to process because the funds need to be moved out of your existing CareSuper Investment options and into your DIO transaction account before you can invest it.
Requests made before 4.00 pm AEST/AEDT on business days are completed in two business days, and requests after 4.00 pm AEST/AEDT pm take three business days.
Any requests submitted on weekends or national public holidays, will be processed on the next available business day.
Step 6. Transfer complete
Once your transfer is complete, you’ll see the transferred amount in DIO cash, and the Go to DIO button will appear. You’re now ready to begin investing.
Tip: Your DIO account requires a minimum of $500 in reserve cash to remain active. The Available cash balance is automatically adjusted to reflect this in both your DIO page in Member Online and your portfolio activity within the DIO portal.
Transferring funds into your DIO account
Once your DIO account is set up, you can decide when to transfer funds, giving you full control of your investment.
Step 1. Enter a transfer amount
Simply log in to Member Online and go to ‘Investment’ then ‘Direct Investment Option’ to begin your transfer.
ClickTransfer to DIO Cash and then enter an amount within the minimum and maximum transfer limits. Click Request transfer.
Step 2. Review request details
Next, check the details of your transfer, confirm you’ve read and understood the terms and conditions by ticking the box, and click Submit request.
Step 3. Pending transfer
While your transfer is being processedyou’ll see a Pending DIO Transfer notification in your account.
Step 4. Request processing complete
Once your transfer is complete, you’ll see the transferred amount in DIO cash in your DIO portal.
When transferring funds into your DIO, it’s important to know:Empty heading
- The transfer will be paid out of your CareSuper investment options, based on your instructions for investing future contributions.
- If there aren’t enough funds in the options you selected for future contributions, the transfer will be spread proportionally across all your investment options.
- Transfers are not immediate. Requests made before 4:00 pm AEST/AEDT on business days are completed in two business days*, while requests made after 4:00 pm are completed in three business days*. Requests submitted on weekends or national public holidays are processed on the next available business day. This means funds won’t be available to invest in your DIO for at least two business days after submission.
- Transfer requests received before 4:00 pm AEST/AEDT on a business day will be processed at that day’s unit price.
- After submitting your transfer request, it cannot be cancelled.
- You won’t be able to transact or switch between your other CareSuper investment options until the transfer is complete.
- Once complete, a transfer confirmation will appear in your Member Online mailbox.
Transferring funds out of your DIO account
You can choose when to transfer funds from your DIO account to your other CareSuper investment options, giving you flexibility over how your money is invested.
Step 1. Enter a transfer amount
Simply log in to Member Online go to ‘Investments’ then ‘Direct Investment Option’ to begin your transfer.
Click Transfer from DIO Cash and then enter an amount within the minimum and maximum transfer limits. Click Request transfer.
Step 2. Review request details
Next, check the details of your transfer, confirm you’ve read and understood the terms and conditions by ticking the box, and click Submit request.
Step 3. Pending transfer
While your transfer is being processed you will see a Pending DIO Transfer notification in your account.
Step 4. Request processing complete
When you request a transfer from your DIO, the amount will appear as Reserved Cash until the transfer is finalised. Your Available Cash will reduce to reflect the withdrawal.
When transferring funds out of your DIO, it’s important to know:
- You can only transfer money that appears as Available cash in your DIO Transaction account. If some of your balance is still tied up in pending trades, distributions or corporate actions, it won’t be available to transfer until those transactions are complete.
- A $1 minimum transfer amount applies.
- The transfer will be paid into your CareSuper investment options, based on your instructions for investing future contributions.
- Transfers are not immediate. Requests made before 4:00 pm AEST/AEDT on business days are completed in one business days*, while requests made after 4:00 pm are completed in two business days*. Requests submitted on weekends or national public holidays are processed on the next available business day. This means funds won’t be available to in your CareSuper options for at least a day after submission.
- Transfer requests received before 4:00 pm AEST/AEDT on a business day will be processed at that day’s unit price.
- After submitting your transfer request, it cannot be cancelled.
- Once complete, a transfer confirmation will appear in your Member Online mailbox.
What time will my DIO Account be valued?
Valuations for your DIO account are completed at approximately 4:10 am AEST/AEDT, using data from the previous business day.
Where can I view my DIO balance?
You can view your balance in your DIO Portal in both your Investment Valuation and Performance.
How is my DIO total calculated in Member Online?
Your Member Online account gives you a snapshot of your DIO total. It includes your DIO investments, Available Cash and any Term Deposits.
This amount is adjusted for Capitals Gains Tax (realised and unrealised) to show your overall DIO balance.
Please note that your $500 minimum transaction account holding is not included in this total.

*Business day is any day that’s not a Saturday, Sunday, national public holiday (including the King’s Birthday for all states except QLD and WA), or any day that the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) is closed.
