Background
Tom is a Member-Representative Director nominated by Unions Tasmania. Tom was a Director of Tasplan Super prior to its merger with MTAA Super in April 2021 to become Spirit Super which then merged to become CareSuper in November 2024. Tom led a Tasmanian Branch of Australia’s main public sector union, the CPSU, since 2003 until 2020. He's also the Federal President of the CPSU’s State Public Service Division and Joint National President of the CPSU. Tom represents the union at a national and international level including being involved with organisations researching the future of work and corporate tax accountability. He's active in the global federation of workers in public services, the Public Services International. Tom has led a range of public campaigns opposing privatisation and promoting the importance of well-funded public services.
