Contribution considerations 

1 CPD Point (ASIC – Superannuation, Legislated CPD – Technical Competence – 1 pt) 

This session explores the different ways to contribute to super and why certain strategies may suit different situations. It also compares the benefits of using extra funds to pay off a mortgage versus contributing to super, and considers whether super contributions could help people achieve a more secure retirement—even in today’s unaffordable housing market. 

 

Learning outcomes: 

  • Refresh knowledge on Contribution types for both concessional and non-concessional contributions including the First Home Super Savings Scheme Discuss an alternative strategy to increase superannuation funds and buy a property at retirement. 
  • Understand how concessional contributions can also assist with reducing CGT 
  • Review other contribution types such as Spouse, Downsizer and Super-splitting 
  • Learn how recontribution strategies work

 

Group insurance: tips, traps and things you should know 

0.75 CPD Point (ASIC – Life Insurance (0.50 pt) Superannuation (0.25 pt), Legislated CPD – Technical Competence (0.75 pt)) 

This presentation explores the shift in group insurance, where tighter underwriting now affects members with pre-existing conditions. It covers key group insurance concepts, common terms, pros and cons, how to position cover to clients, and strategies for supporting those with existing health issues. 

Learning outcomes: 

  • Define the difference between corporate and personal superannuation
  • Understand some key terms used in Group Insurance 
  • Know the different approaches to insurance in corporate plans verses personal plans 
  • Positioning life insurance to people, including those with health deficiencies. 
  • Consider an insurance strategy using both group and retail cover 

 

Crafting effective nominations: future proofing a client’s intentions 

1 CPD Point (ASIC – Superannuation, Legislated CPD – 0.25 pt Regulatory Compliance and Client Care 0.75 pt Technical Competence).

 

Explore nomination types, their impact on beneficiaries, consequences of invalid or omitted nominations, and contesting procedures. 

Learning outcomes: 

  • Understand the pitfalls that different types of nominations may bring 
  • Identify the relationship with the deceased member e.g. dependant, interdependent or non-dependant and how these relationships can change 
  • Explain the ramifications of failing to make a nomination or making an invalid nomination 
  • Learn the process of contesting a death benefit nomination

Blending research, neuro-linguistic programming, and personal stories, The Science of Conversation helps newer advisers build better client relationships while offering valuable reminders for experienced professionals.
